Welcome To NEXT STEP
When it comes to working out, it can be difficult to form a schedule and healthy habits. In particular with college students, we can get caught up in our day-to-day activities and go through our daily motions; before you know it, there may be times when you feel like you don’t have time to work out or make healthier choices. For this project, I want to share my workout routines so one can get a better understanding of what they may be looking for or what it may look like to work on different core muscles in the body. In addition to that, I will also share some recommendations and bring in additional comments from health experts. While everyone will not have the same schedule or the same routines (and it is okay to not have those same things), my goal is to share what I have learned and hear from a fellow college student and young adult who is getting ready to graduate and enter the workforce, who wants to make staying active and healthy and daily and positive habit!
Values
1 / The fact that you are here or there, truly matters.
Everyone is going to be starting at different points when it comes to working out and making healthy decisions. Do not feel like you don’t belong when you are in a gym; to be there is a great first step and you are making a choice to be active. The fact that you are there shows that you want to be making a healthy choice and discipline yourself to stay on this track. So don’t feel like you are out of place; everyone will have different levels of experience and there may be things you know that others do not! Having a positive mindset and having a reason for being there is a great start.
3 / There are two sides to a coin!
It is important to not compare yourself to other people in these situations. There could be people who have spent years working on a routine and following it. So do not feel that your results have to come right away; it takes practice and discipline! On the flip side, it is important to not judge others who may be starting to work out. If you feel that someone needs help with something, feel free to say something politely. Helping someone to correct themselves if they are making a mistake can be beneficial. Feel free to help others or ask for help when you need it. This can be a great way to make a friend or get to know someone better if you just reach out nicely.
5 / Reach out to others if you need to!
Okay, so if I am not the expert, why am I talking to you about how to make healthy habits? I want to share with you how making these healthy habits have worked for me and how health and fitness have had a positive impact on my life (and it continues to). There are things I hope to share that will be a good lesson for you, the reader, and the audience! But there are many different resources to look at and different people to consult! If there is someone you may know, reach out to them and talk to them more about it! If there are resources you wish to share or have questions on, ask those questions. There are things that you learn on the way and it can help to adjust your routines and habits if necessary. While I can give my advice on how to make these healthy habits, and I can share with you what I have learned and what can be good for you, there are various ways to stay healthy, not just one way!
2 / We are going to have different goals and that is what we want to see!
Whether you are looking to gain muscle and bulk up or if you are looking for a weight-loss routine, it is important to have a goal in mind. To be active and healthy is a great start and that can go a long way. There may be different readings on this website that are tailored toward groups that are looking for a specific goal. But I like to think that the primary goal for us (and for the making of this website) is to make healthy habits and stay active. After all, by practicing different kinds of fitness, you are essentially staying active and I believe that is what we are trying to see!
4 / Moderation Is Key.
When it comes to working out, dieting, and making healthy habits, some things are done in moderation. When developing a workout routine, it is important to balance working out different parts of the body. While you may have specific goals in mind (losing weight, building up muscle, or increasing your endurance), you do not want to overdo it in one part. For example, it is important to work out both your upper body and your lower body, but also add a bit of cardio in; it is also key to do stretches to help your muscles out before and after a workout to not be sore! The same goes with dieting; it is not going to be an easy task to give up certain foods and drinks you like (everyone loves to have French Fries as a side other than me, right?). Moderation is key, such as eating enough healthy foods and obtaining the different food groups you need. For me, I have worked on my healthy habits for some time and there are things that I was able to give up more easily than others; for instance, I do not drink soda as much anymore, but that does not mean there are other foods to work on. However, I am not saying you have to give up a special treat completely, it is good to enjoy different food from time to time. My goal is to show you how to make healthy habits and do things in moderation, but still have enjoyment in doing so and choosing to make those healthy habits!
